A couple of weeks ago, I was watching a new show on MTV called Room 401. The show puts two people in creepy and supernatural like situations. It reminded me of Sci-Fi’s Scare Tactics except they do not show the part where they tell the people it was all a joke. I somewhat enjoyed the show and was surprised when I saw that it is another one of Ashton Kutcher’s creations.
It was at that moment I realized that Ashton Kutcher is making money by making minute changes to television show concepts that have already been done. Think about it..
When Punk’d first came out, it was all the rage. People loved watching jokes being played on celebrities. What an original idea, right? Well, Dick Clark was doing the same thing on Super Bloopers and Practical Jokes back in the 80’s and 90’s.
Then we have Beauty and the Geek. I’ve never really watched this show. I’ve seen clips here and there. From what I understand it’s just another reality show. Of course, Kutcher takes it to the next level by having a bunch of geeks paired with beautiful women. They supposedly learn from each other. I have to admit that this is different from the other reality dating shows out there.
Finaly, there is Room 401 which I already mentioned is like Scare Tactics without the “reveal” scene. I’m not hating on Ashton Kutcher. He’s good at what he does, and he has some solid projects out there. If anything, he’s laughing all the way to the bank. He puts this stuff out there, and we bite.
